Google Home is one of Google’s most popular DIY smart home offerings. According to Google more than one device has been sold every single second since the release of Google mini. Google Home can be used as a voice assistant, a hub, a music player, among others.

One of the key functions in Google Home is the ability to integrate with and control other smart devices. As of the time of publishing this article, Google Home can work with over 10,000 devices from over 1000 manufacturers.

The broad compatibility means that you can use Google Home to control Netflix on any smart device you have it installed on, be it a smart tv, projector, tablet or laptop.For example, all you need to do is ask Google to play something on a particular device in your smart home setup, and it will do exactly that.

Requirements to Use Netflix With Google Home

Before you go any further, ensure you have the following in your DIY smart home setup:

  • A Google Home device- speaker or Hub
  • A compatible display device with Netflix installed- Could be a tv, smart projector, Chromecast equipped display etc. Most display devices can be controlled with Google home, but to be sure, ensure you have set up the device with Google Home.

 

For instance, you should add your tv to Google home devices if you want to control Netflix on TV. During the setup process, you may be asked to add services such as Netflix, Spotify,among others. Also, note that you can still use Google Home to control Netflix on a non-compatible tv or projector with a Chromecast dongle.

  • Active WI-FI connection- For your smart home setup, all your devices (including Google Home) should be in the same WI-FI network).

How to Use Netflix With Google Home- Step by Step Process

First Steps- Linking Your Tv/ Chromecast To Google Home

The first step in the Google Home to Netflix link-up process is to pair your tv with Google home if you haven’t done so already. You will need to download the Google Home App for Android or iOS just incase this is your first Google Home setup. You can refer to the initial Google home setup process if this is the case before you proceed.

Next, turn on the Google Home device as well as your tv. Make sure your tv is connected to the same WI-FI network as your Google Home device. This will allow Google Home to discover your TV/Chromecast if it is compatible.

Next, tap the plus (+) icon on your Google Home app to add a new device to Google Home. Your tv will appear on the list of devices that can be paired. Note: As part of the link-up process, you will be asked to add services. Make sure you enable Netflix at this point.

Second Step- Using Netflix With Google Home

With your TV/Chromecast paired to Google Home, you can now proceed with connecting your existing Netflix account with Google Home using the following steps.

Step 1- Launch the Google Home App on your smartphone or tablet. Make sure it is connected to the same network as your Google Home device/hub.

Step 2- Tap on the hamburger button/Menu (three dots at the top left of the app) and tap on Google Assistant then More Settings.

Step 4- Next, tap the services tab and then choose Videos and Photos option. Here you will see the list of services enabled on your device, including Netflix.  Select Netflix and tap on “link”. You will be asked to provide your Netflix login credentials to complete the process and enable Netflix on Google Home.

Congratulations! You have successfully connected your Netflix account to Google Home. You can now start using Netflix with Google Home by sending voice commands like, “OK Google, launch Netflix on my Tv”. Awesome right?
